Warsaw Grand Theather held 2017 Chinese New Year celebrations

The Polish edition of 2017 Happy Spring Festival celebrations took place this Monday, January 16, in the Grand Theather in the country's capital Warsaw. Artists from Hubei Peking Opera Company offered exceptional performance for the local audiences in which they presented the unique Chinese spirit and charm.

2017 is the seventh year in a row when the Polish edition is organised. Artists combined acting, performance and dialogue and presented not only the most well-known Beijing opera pieces like „Uproar in Heaven” or „Celestial Beauty Scattering Flowers” but also exquisite costumes and music so that the audiences might better appreciate this traditional form of art.

Mr. Xu Jian, Ambassador of China to Poland in his opening speech remarked that the organisation of the Spring Festival in Poland has already become a tradition marking the constant strenghtening of intercultural exchange between the two nations. He also used this opportunity to send New Year's greetings to overseas Chinese and staff of Chinese companies living in Poland.

The director of Hubei Peking Opera Company, Mr. Zhu Shihui stated that it was its first performance in Poland and the enthusiastic reaction of the audiences impressed him deeply. He also expressed his wish that the national Chinese opera – the Beijing Opera will promote its culture abroad and arouse interest in the country's traditional aesthetics and art.

The event was organised jointly by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Poland and aided by the Polish-Chinese association for economic and cultural cooperation Pol-Chin Consulting. The Hubei Peking Opera Company will now head to four other Polish major cities including Cracow and Gdansk where it will continue to present unique Chinese performances for local audiences until January 21.
